2024 Dawn Creek Zinnia Fundraiser

Grow Dawn Creek Zinnias and help us keep breeding in 2024!

Seeds will begin shipping in early March.

Please note that four of our zinnia mixes will be available to purchase through Floret’s seed company for the first time starting February 6th, 2024. you can preview the 2024 mixes being introduced here. A portion of these sales will return to our farm to help fund our continued work.

The heart of this annual fundraiser is to spread joy and excitement during the darkest time of the year by offering a chance for you to grow a mix of zinnia seed from our farm’s breeding program. This fundraiser will also give anyone who wants to the chance to support our farm’s in-progress cut flower breeding efforts!

By contributing to this fundraiser, you are helping us bring new and exciting cut flower varieties to your gardens and farms in the seasons ahead. Donations we receive will help support the continuation of our zinnias and many other very exciting cut flower breeding projects in 2024, with the goal of making new open pollinated varieties abundantly available for purchase through retail market channels as soon as the plants allow!

In an effort to make this current opportunity available to as many people as possible regardless of circumstances, and to reduce stress or feelings of scarcity that can arise when exciting new plants are offered online, we need your help!

Please read ALL the information provided on this page so you understand exactly what we are offering in thanks for your support, and what your options are for participatingBy participating in this fundraiser you are agreeing that you have read, understand, and agree to the conditions laid out below.

Any and all donations are welcome and very much appreciated! For those interested in obtaining seed, we are offering the following two chances for US residents to receive a packet of the seed described below while supplies last. While we welcome all support during this fundraiser, we unfortunately are not be able to ship seeds outside the US at this time. Sincere apologies to all our friends and followers abroad! If you live outside the US but have friends here, we are happy to arrange to send your seed gift to them.

*Please note, seed shipping will begin in MARCH for the 2024 season!

ZINNIA SEED Opportunity 1:

Donate and receive a packet of seed!

Anyone in the USA who donates $50.00 or more can opt to receive a mixed packet of mixed seed from our 2023 Zinnia seed lines mailed to your doorstep. If you live outside the US but have friends here, we are happy to arrange to send your seed gift to them. Seed will be sent out first-come first-serve until they run out. We will update this page with a notice as soon as seed has run out for this year. If you do not see an update announcing that shipping has closed here, that means we still have seed available.

Help Spread the Joy! for every donation of 100.00 or more received (while supplies last), we will send a packet of seed to the address you provide AND we will add an additional packet to the raffle drawing on March 24th (Opportunity #2 below) so that someone financially unable to donate will be gifted a chance to brighten their garden with these special flowers this summer!

Those who want to support our farm during this window and meet the above amount but reside outside the US or don’t plan on growing seed themselves can choose to help spread the joy by donating their complementary packet to our raffle so an additional excited gardener has a chance to grow them! All participants must read notes on limitations and shipping restrictions outlined below.*

ZINNIA SEED Opportunity 2:

If you are not in the position to donate the above listed amount or we run out of seeds before you have a chance to donate, we still want you to have a chance to grow these seeds this summer! We will be entering the names of everyone else who contributes less than the 50.00 amount to the fundraiser before midnight PST on March 23rd, 2023 (regardless of total donation amount) into a raffle, and will draw a minimum of 25 winners on March 24th, 2024. In the past we have been able to gift over 75 packets to those in need in a single season through this raffle!

If you are not able to afford to donate any amount whatsoever at this time but know that having a chance to grow these seeds would seriously brighten your day, please contact us through the website contact form with your full name and email address and write “Solstice” in the comment box, and we will add your name to the giveaway. On March 23rd we will draw a minimum of 25 winners, and each winner will receive a packet of seed in the mail!

Giveaway winners will be contacted via email sometime before 8PM PST on 3/24/2024.

Terms: PLEASE READ!

Please note, for those who choose to contribute the listed amount while we have seed available: there will be ONE PACKET of seed mailed to each donor/address per shipping season, regardless of the number of donations made (multiple 50.00 donations will not result in multiple packets being sent to you). This includes those who were on the waitlist after last year’s seeds ran out: you will receive one packet of seed in March, regardless of the number of donations you make while this seed opportunity is open. Our seeds are very limited, and we want as many people as possible to have a chance to grow them this year! If you think a loved one would like to participate and grow these seeds themselves, please let them know about the fundraiser so they have a chance to donate!

We ask that at this time folks refrain from having others donate on their behalf in order to obtain additional seed. Again the focus is on spreading a bit of hope and excitement to as many people as we can with the seed we have available—we fully understand that there are many, many people who are excited to grow this unique seed mix in large quantities as soon as possible!! By supporting this fundraiser you are helping contribute to making this a reality in future seasons. The scaling up of our seeds is already in progress at Floret, and these varieties will be available in larger quantities and lower prices in the near future. Thank you all for your help and support making this happen!

Shipping restrictions: While we welcome any and all support during this fundraiser, we unfortunately are not be able to ship seeds outside the US at this time. Sincere apologies to all our friends and followers abroad—If anything changes in the future we will announce it.

Please note your contribution is not tax deductible.

ABOUT THE SEED:

We hope this information helps detail exactly what you can expect to receive as part of your donation to avoid any confusion about what we are able to offer at this time.

We will begin mailing 2024 thank you seed packets out (for as long as supplies last) beginning in March, in the order donations are received.

SEEDS PER PACKET: We will be packing seed by weight this year, and thus seed count will vary slightly, our goal is for you to receive a minimum of 50 seeds per packet (likely more).

The seed we are offering as part of this fundraiser will be a mix harvested from all the current seed lines in our 2023 Dawn Creek zinnia breeding program.

This mix will include some open pollinated seed (flowers left open to the bees to work their cross pollination magic among multiple Dawn Creek varieties), and also seed from our stable varieties that we have selectively isolated and self pollinated. We cannot predict or guarantee exactly what will bloom out of the individual mix you receive, as the genetic diversity in our program is significant!—what we can guarantee is that all the seeds we are sending have been collected from double flowers that exhibit the range of colors and traits that you see in the photos on this page and in our instagram posts and stories. Watching them bloom next year will be an exciting mystery for us all to discover, and you may very well have new colors and forms bloom for you that no one has ever seen before! Due to the nature of genetics, you can also expect to have a small percentage of more typical/saturated colors and single form flowers pop up in the mix as these common traits are activated naturally through hybridization.

For those who want to try their hand at saving seed from their plants next summer, we recommend sowing this mix at two seeds/cell in the spring and culling any plants that exhibit colors or other traits that don’t speak to you as soon as they bloom so they won’t pollinate future generations.

We fully encourage you to save seeds from these plants, and share with friends and family. If you hope to sell the seed you save, know there is an industry standard for breeder compensation to honor the immense labor, skill and many many years of hard work and dedication that I have poured into the creation of these open pollinated varieties. If you would like to learn more about options for setting up seed sales, please contact us directly.

You can read more about the story behind these seeds here!
